Sparklehorse and Dangermouse

May 17, 2009

Apparently this release has been scrapped for legal reasons, and I’ve got to say.. what a shame. Unlike the mediocre effort Fatboy Slim released this year.. (Sorry, The BPA.. Still love you Fatboy Slim) featuring a ton of guests.. this record featuring a bunch of guests is really, really good. And the guests feel really well used unlike the BPA’s “We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat”

 Points:

The album’s production is skillful, engaging and consistent. Dangermouse’s side of the work here is as apparent as Sparklehorse’s work on the album. It’s wonderfully spacious and slightly operatic at times.. Filled with big emotions and deliciously crooning vocals. It’s fun, but poignant.. The record really sweeps the listener away effectively.

The Guest spots are great, each track seems tailored for the particular artist, and none of the guest artists really feel like they’re squandered. Furthermore, Sparklehorse and Danger Doom adapt to various stylings of music quite well while maintaining the spaciness that charmed me so much about the record.

All in all I hope you find a way to hear this and I hope you enjoy it.. because I’d like to see this album get released. Sparklehorse and Dangerdoom do the ‘guest record’ right because they both seem to comprehend that while they need to maintain their sound.. They also recognize  the need to alter it slightly for different artists.
